Alghero

Nested on the coast of the Italian island of Sardinia, Alghero is a beauty. It was my first backpacking solo trip, and I loved it. Barely 400 kms from Africa, I was bent on taking a trip to an island, and summertime was the best time to go there.

The Mediterrenean has some of the best beaches and water in all of Europe, they say. Turns out it stands true (yet). Sardinia had the best set of beaches (spiaggia) I have ever been to. It has beautiful coves (cala), caves (grotto) and some castles (castello).

Old fortified cities like Alghero give a brief insight into the history. Quaint and colorful villages like Bosa add to the rustic beauty.
